Three people, including a 1 year old have burnt beyond recognition.

Newsflash: This follows a head-on collision that included a truck and a light motor vehicle on the R509, Derby on Friday.

It is alleged that the driver of the vehicle tried to avoid hitting guinea fowls on the road and drove onto the side of the oncoming traffic. The vehicle then collided with the truck, head-on.

The MEC for the department of Community Safety and Transport Management, Sello Lehari was saddened by the tragic news.

“I am at a loss for words, especially knowing that the deceased are a 29 year old who was the driver, a 24-year-old and a 1-year-old baby girl. They met their death, at a very young age and in such a tragic manner. It is really unfortunate. My sincere condolensces.” said the MEC.

MEC Lehari continued to plead to road users to be extra careful.

“It takes a split second for a person to lose their life. We, therefore plead with road users to pay extra attention and be extra careful.” added MEC Lehari.

The driver of the truck escaped unharmed.

A culpable homicide case is currently under investigation. .
